Impeach Trump. Again!
I offer this post, with its general letter to elected officials, as encouragement and support for raising your voice and engaging at this critical hour. Trump is right now openly agitating for the overthrow of our election system, and war with Iran seems increasingly likely (more as a distraction than anything else). There is so much that can be said about why this president should be impeached and the campaign described below does a good job of making the case. Adding our voices to the impeachment campaign is one way to be in solidarity with the people bearing the brunt of this administration’s violence.
It can be helpful to remember that Trump has already been impeached twice.
On December 18, 2019, the House of Representatives adopted two articles of impeachment against President Trump: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. On February 5, 2020, the Senate voted to acquit Trump on both articles of impeachment.
On January 13, 2021 (seven days prior to the expiration of his term), the House of Representatives adopted one article of impeachment against President Trump: incitement of insurrection. In the end, the Senate voted 57–43 to convict Trump of inciting insurrection, falling 10 votes short of the two-thirds majority required by the Constitution, and Trump was therefore acquitted. Seven Republican senators joined all Democratic and independent senators in voting to convict Trump, the largest bipartisan vote for an impeachment conviction of a U.S. president or former U.S. president. Trump is the only U.S. president and only federal official to be impeached twice (source).
State and Local Action
While the formal impeachment process must be conducted by Congress, local and state governments can play an important role. They can encourage public awareness and debate in the context of state and local resolutions calling on the U.S. House of Representatives to open an impeachment investigation. If passed, such resolutions build support by making Representatives understand that their constituents favor starting the impeachment process. During the earlier Trump impeachment, campaigners put together this Guide for Local and State Resolutions in Support of Impeachment.
Letter to Elected Officials
Re: Support for Impeachment Proceedings Against President Trump
Greetings,
I’m standing with over 250,000 Americans in support of a Congressional impeachment investigation into abuses of power by President Trump. I support formal investigations into other key figures in the Administration as well.
As you will know, the U.S. Constitution’s impeachment clause (Article II, Section 4) allows Congress to remove the President, Vice President, and other civil officers for “Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors,” with the House impeaching (charging) and the Senate trying the case, requiring a two-thirds vote for conviction and removal from office.
I applaud Congressman Al Green, who filed articles of impeachment and the 140 members of the U.S. House of Representatives who voted on December 11, 2025 to advance those articles of impeachment against President Trump. I give a shout out to the three representatives from my state of Colorado who voted in favor of advancing the measure. I will be contacting each of them to express my appreciation and to urge them to do all they can to continue building momentum for impeachment.
The Impeachment Campaign
In parallel with Congressman Green’s initiative, there is a grassroots campaign that calls on Congress “to immediately impeach and remove Donald Trump for offenses that he has carried out against the people, institutions, and branches of our government.” The campaign is called Impeach Trump. Again, and its website includes the case for impeachment and lists no less than 26 different offenses. These include:
Committing treason by mobilizing U.S. troops against civilians throughout the United States, to instill fear in the civilian population, quell lawful political dissent, politicize our military, and usurp local and state authority.
Committing or planning war and humanitarian crimes.
Abusing the power of his office to unlawfully maintain political power.
Blocking efforts to secure U.S. elections.
Calling for the execution of Senator Mark Kelly and other democratic lawmakers.
Engaging in corruption for his own and his close associates’ personal enrichment.
The campaign has garnered over 250,000 signatures in support of a Congressional impeachment investigation.
The call to impeach is not a symbolic act. Active citizenship requires it, as does an oath to defend the Constitution. With each passing day Trump’s extremism deepens, and as it does, the call for impeachment will grow louder. Formal impeachment proceedings is an urgent necessity—before the grip of authoritarianism strangles democracy further, as with the blatant attempt to subvert future elections. This is far bigger than short-term political calculations—it is basic accountability and defense of the Constitution and our democracy.
The grassroots impeachment campaign isn’t limited to Trump but includes certain key figures in the Administration, such as Kristi Noem and Pam Bondi. I support impeachment proceedings for these officials as well.
Trump’s lawless authoritarianism is not a partisan issue. Standing up for the Constitution and the rule of law is not a partisan issue. How far will this administration be allowed to go before the Constitution and its impeachment clause is used to fight back in a decisive way? I urge you to take the strongest stand possible against these abuses of power by formally and publicly supporting impeachment. Thank you.
Sincerely,

Thank you!
